Our Story

Devoted. Practiced. Inspired.

For more than two decades, Saraswati’s Yoga Joint has carried the wisdom of its namesake — creativity, clarity, and consciousness — into the way we practice and teach.

It started with a simple idea: the body deserves precision, and yoga deserves plain language instead of mystery. Thousands of students and a lot of change later, that idea has only gotten stronger.

Through it all, the heart of SYJ has stayed remarkably simple: show up, learn something, get out of your head and into your body, and keep coming back.

Approach

Our classes are grounded in anatomy, informed by experience, and built for real bodies. We teach the why and how behind the way we move, giving you the tools to understand your body and build a practice that is strong, sustainable, and your own.

We believe in working hard and slowing down. In precision without perfection. In staying curious. And in taking the practice seriously without taking ourselves too seriously.

Whether you’re stepping onto a mat for the first time or have been practicing for decades, there are no prerequisites. Come as you are. Practice from there.

Our Team

SYJ is shaped by the people who show up here. Our team brings different backgrounds, experiences, interests, and voices to the studio, united by a commitment to the practice and to the people we teach.

We’re teachers, students, athletes, artists, parents, musicians, seekers, anatomy nerds, and forever students. Different people. One SYJ.

Vicky

I discovered yoga 25 years ago while pregnant with my son, Ryan, a pivotal moment that shifted my focus from physical appearance to internal well-being. For the past 21 years, SYJ Yoga has been my forever studio, and today, as its co-owner, I integrate over 25 years of deep spiritual study into my practice. My classes bridge the gap between structural anatomy and soulful connection, blending physical precision and body mechanics with the subtle energetics of Meditation, Yin Yoga, and Reiki. Anchored by thoughtfully curated playlists, my teaching style is warm, accessible, and empowering. I view yoga as an authentic discipline in self-care that inspires personal growth and supports a purposeful life.

Renée

I’ve been an athlete my whole life, so it’s no surprise I was first drawn to the physical side of yoga. What has kept me coming back to my mat is everything I found beyond it—a practice that continues to evolve.

My classes are smart, sweaty, and empowering, with a soulful soundtrack and usually some laughter. Functional anatomy and dynamic sequencing help us explore the why and how behind the way we move. And, while I love a good challenge, I believe just as deeply in the power of slowing down.

My teaching journey started right here at SYJ. Now, as co-owner, I lead our teacher training and Practice Immersion programs. I’m a forever student myself, and I love creating space for others to keep learning, questioning, and discovering what the practice has to offer.

Jenny

I found Saraswati's Yoga Joint at a time when I needed it most, and this space quite literally helped me heal. That experience changed how I see my role here every single day. As Studio Manager, I don't just handle the logistics — I get to show up for a community that once showed up for me.

For over 20 years, this studio has been a place where people come not just to practice, but to be seen, supported, and held. That's the feeling I work to protect and pass on every day. Whether it's your first class or your five-hundredth, I want you to feel it the moment you walk through our doors: you belong here. You're not just a member — you’re family.

Mary

I teach with a grounding approach that blends traditional yoga practices, philosophy, and mindful, accessible movement. My classes emphasize breath, embodiment, and self-awareness, offering thoughtful variations that allow students to feel both supported and appropriately challenged. Through movement, reflection, and curiosity, I invite students to deepen their connection to themselves and carry the teachings of yoga beyond the mat.

Stephanie

Over the past 18 years, I have taught hundreds of students and witnessed their positive transformations through the mind, body, spirit, and breath practices of yoga. As a certified yoga therapist, my specialty is leading mental health-aware yoga and teaching students to adapt their practice as their bodies change and as they navigate life's transitions.

Rhodie

I bring energy, heart, and great music to every mat Pilates class. Expect thoughtful, precise movement that builds strength, flexibility, and body awareness paired with an uplifting soundtrack and a genuine sense of community. I believe Pilates is as much about connection and lifestyle as it is about core work. I love creating a space where students feel challenged, supported, and glad to be there.

Michelle

My teaching is nourishing and fluid, with an emphasis on mindful movement and alignment that honors the organic architecture of the body. As a clinical nutritionist, I bring a holistic perspective to my teaching and help students cultivate greater strength, balance, relaxation, and energy — both on and off the mat.

Lauren

I am passionate about bringing ancient yoga wisdom to modern life. My classes blend playful exploration with thoughtful alignment, inviting students to discover how their practice shapes the way they show up in the world. I create space for both challenge and surrender, inviting students to discover yoga as a way of being  - cultivating balance, resilience, and joy that carries into everyday life.

Anna

A former dancer, I came to yoga seeking physical challenge and found something far deeper. My classes blend intelligent, alignment-based vinyasa with room to challenge yourself or settle inward, creating space to explore without judgment. Expect a welcoming class, a great soundtrack, and to leave feeling grounded and strong.

Amoolya

In my classes, you can expect mindful movement with clear cues centered on breath and alignment. I focus on helping you feel safe and comfortable in your body. You’ll flow along to an eclectic collection of music, with plenty of quiet breathing room to connect with your own experience. To help you drop in, I pull from a mix of steadying breathwork and relatable everyday themes. There are no rigid rules here—just a grounded, welcoming space to quiet your mind, get moving, and leave feeling ready for whatever comes next!

Ali

I discovered yoga as a young mother, learning to find calm within myself and respond rather than react. Today, I teach slow, intentional movement that connects breath, body, and presence. My classes invite you to move breath by breath, listen inward, and create space for awareness, patience, and connection — on the mat and in everyday life.

Chrissy

In my classes, you can expect an introspective centering and alignment-focused vinyasa flow with a backdrop of humor and a soulful playlist. My goal is to lead a class that is truly a moving meditation, allowing space for you to feel empowered, challenged and, most of all, inspired to carry the yoga with you throughout your day. The thread that binds my work on and off the mat is creating a safe space for people to ground, connect to themselves and move past what they think they can do. My own practice keeps teaching me that — and I'm grateful to pass it on.

Sally

Movement has always been essential to me, from my early life as a dancer to more than 26 years practicing and teaching yoga. A former massage therapist, I bring a deep understanding of the body to my teaching. I offer thoughtful, enlivening movement rooted in connection, curiosity, and love of practice.

Vicki

My teaching focus is always on proper form. My philosophy in fitness is that our muscles know what to do, can handle hard things, and grow stronger when the work is done correctly. In class, I cultivate an inclusive atmosphere so that every student receives the encouragement they need to have fun and achieve their goals. You can always count on a little humor and a bit of improper counting to keep everyone on their toes.

Charlotte

I believe yoga can be a balm for the heart, body, and spirit, and SYJ has been my yoga home since 2016. My classes blend thoughtful alignment, intentional sequencing, and a soulful playlist. A poet, herbalist, and lover of the natural world, I weave poetry into practice as a bridge between mind and body.

Sarah H.

I teach a strong, smartly sequenced, and soulful flow. A former college athlete, 3x marathon finisher, and educator, I weave both the physical and philosophical into my signature SYJ alignment-based yoga classes. You can expect references to rap music, moments of reverence, contemplative musings, lines of poetry, and thoughtful insights as you move, sweat, breathe, and be.

Ranjini

I am first a student of the life sciences of Yoga and Ayurveda. My teaching is rooted in the Indic knowledge traditions and grounded in lived experience, deepened through practice over time. Through SYJ, I offer workshops that gently invite students to move toward stillness and self-understanding.
