Project SYJ

At SYJ we ardently believe that the gift of yoga should be available for everyone who choses to practice it. It’s powerful stuff, it brings communities together and elevates us to be who we are meant to be. Yoga reminds us that our bodies, our minds and our big throbbing hearts are strong. We remember that we are courageous, we remember that we are empowered and we begin to move in beautiful ways on this planet locally and globally. Ultimately yoga reminds us that we have the power to heal ourselves and each other. Our mission is to team up with brave and the courageous amongst us so that we can work together to share yoga and to make it accessible and affordable to those in need.

Domestic Violence Crisis Center

Presently we are working with the Domestic Violence Crisis Center, providing weekly yoga classes for free to women who are victims of domestic violence. Our hope is that the practice of yoga will help these women heal and take steps to lead beautiful empowered lives. This program is funded by our weekly meditation students, SYJ & Pro-Mindful, a 501 3C that matches our donations in order to pay for these classes. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

14-FP-17013 - Yoga Gives - Poster-Flyer templates_8.5x11_editable_040414In June of 2013, the SYJ community raised over $18,000.00 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We were the 2nd highest team donation in the nation. This was an unprecedented Wow! Where our amazing community proved, yet again, that the power to heal and to serve ignites when we are doing it together.

Our 2nd annual Yoga Gives to St. Jude Kids yogathon will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014 in New Canaan. To sign up or support a participant, please click here.

What’s our next venture into the world of service? Liz Lowe and Donna Jackson completed their training on teaching yoga to our veterans and those suffering from PTSD and we are really thrilled to bring this to our yoga community. We’ll keep you posted!

We’d like to give a special thank you to Alex Nason and Promindful, Peter and Paula Sherk, and Tedrowe Bonner for helping to support us financially in all our endeavors to give yoga back to communities in need.
